Thank you so much for your words and compassion. This is such a difficult time for us all. It seems to bother me most when I would never expect it. We love Kane so deeply that not a moment goes by without something sparking a memory and making us cry.
We have him resting in his favorite spot in the far end of the yard between 2 shade trees. Every evening I walk out and spend time, talking with him and then say goodnight. Last night, I heard my husband call out a "Night, Buddy"...before he closed the shades. He didn't know that I heard him but I'm glad I did.
You are so right about Dobies. They are such a special loving breed. I was never alone. I was always safe and secure and in the presence of my very best friend.
I am so sorry for the loss of Leya. She sounds as if she was a very beautiful friend and spirit that lit up your life. I shed a tear for her along with Kane today.
I hope for the day when things are easier for us to handle. I know that our babies would not want us sad. Kane always did something funny or began to kiss me like crazy if I cried over anything. He did not want to see that and would do anything to make me smile. I'm sure Leya had her way of cheering you, as well. Though it's hard for us to think of that right now, they would want us to focus on the silly things and the happy times. I truly feel that we will see them again and that's a good thought to keep in our minds.
I'm happy to have had this talk. Who knows, Kane and Leya may be playing together as we speak. Running around as if puppies. That's a picture to make us both smile.

Kane by: Diana
Hi Penny Kane is an absolutely gorgeous boy. When I read your story I cried for him and for you. I know so well the pain you are feeling and how lost you feel without him. There is just something so special about Dobies. I lost my beautiful dobie girl Leya last August. It has been 10 months without her and I still cry every day. Dobies are so full of personality and are so intelligent. They are so loving and loyal and they are like puppies all their lives. They just embrace every day and live it to the fullest.
It sounds like you gave Kane the most wonderful life. His own screened in porch and taking him swimming. I never took Leya swimming. I wish I had. She also had arthritis and trouble getting around. Leya was 12 when we lost her, but no amount of time is enough for us to be with these wonderful souls.
Hopefully with time we will start to focus on all the love, fun and good things they brought to our lives instead of just the sadness of losing them. When we remember them we need to remember not that they're gone, but that they were here, and not that they died, but that they lived. I believe they will be with us always. Dobies are the best teachers. One thing I have discovered is that Dobie love soothes the soul like nothing else can. I have spent time at a dobie rescue, just being with them and hugging and cuddling them. They were all so wonderful. I took them all toys and it was so wonderful to see them play happily with them. It's just a suggestion that might help you when you are ready. I'm so sorry for your loss...
